I designed a cute ghosty and a scaredy cat for the spooky holiday season this year and sent them straight to the shop where I sell some of my work in East Tennessee. I had to employ some tricks – like placing pipe cleaner in the tail of the cat – but ended up with quite a treat for a final product. I was greatly inspired by vintage ghost and cat imagery, particularly those containing bows!
These cuties are fairly small but I did make some bigger than others. While the palm size ghosties were quite sweet, they were much easier to sew when a bit larger. I love tiny things but my eyes and fingers do not.
The full bodied cats were impossible to make very small and still create a ridged twisty tail but their scale is still charming to me. To make some smaller and easier (and thus cheaper) cats, I stuck with just their faces and made a few ornaments. I rather like their teeth.
I really love making holiday themed items and personally, Halloween themes are good all year! Especially cats! Should I release a pattern for these? Please let me know if you’ld like to make these festive creatures in the comments below.
Happy Halloween and All-Souls Day!
