I have my Watercolor students explore gouache by painting a detail painting of either agate or graffiti and they turn out really beautifully each year. This year I’m allowing them to paint minis instead of the standard 8×8 inch pieces if they choose – there’s something quite enchanting about mini-paintings. I’m partial to the agate subject matter myself.
For the first of two demos today I painted a 3×3 inch detail of some badly dyed agate acquired about a year ago. I have a lot of geodes and such that would provide interesting subject matter and I really love the way that the detailed macro perspective creates abstracted imagery that morphs into landscapes or nebulas. I had so much fun I’m going to paint a few more.
Looks kind of like the aurora borealis over a snowy landscape. 🙂
Indeed! Thanks. 🙂
