Week 9: Mexican Bird Love Token

As a gift for my husband on our 13th anniversary I created a small painting of a bird figurine from Mexico. The trinket was purchased at a thrift store a few months ago – not an item from some romantic get away or anything one might associate with a love token – however the personal significance of the item was the basis for the gift.

The painting was fairly simple and fun – I started with a wet-in-wet foundation and then layered on the painted details and shadows with wet-on-dry glazes. I polished it off with a few white ink Gelli Roll details and a simple black mat and frame. The figurine seemed satisfied with the results and so was my hubby.
